Race results and splits: what your race tells you after the finish
Your race splits show where you gained and where you lost time; your finish time is only the bottom line. With Club Pulse you see both in the Pulse app, and comparing editions of the same race shows whether you are actually getting better.

Why do splits matter more than your finish time?
Two athletes can cross the line in the same time after running completely different races. One goes out too fast and fades; the other paces it and finishes strong. The finish time cannot tell them apart. The splits can.
Reading your splits after every race is the cheapest coaching you will ever get: it tells you what to train next based on the clock, not on a hunch.
How to read your DEKA splits
DEKA uses the same ten zones everywhere in the world, so your times hold up against any other DEKA. Every event doubles as a fitness test.
- Zones vs running: in DEKA FIT and DEKA MILE, split the time you spend in the zones from the time you spend running between them.
- Your slowest zone: set it against your average; that is usually where the easiest time is.
- The second half: if the last zones stretch out far more than the first ones, the issue may be pacing rather than strength.
- DEKA STRONG: with no running in between, the splits show your work at each station and nothing else.
How to compare editions of the same race
Coming back to the same race year after year is the best progress check there is: same place, same time of year, same kind of course. Seeing your result next to last year’s says more than how the day felt.
Read it sensibly, though. A Spartan is a cross-country course that can change between editions, and so can the ground and the weather. Treat it as a trend, not a to-the-second exam.
What the DEKA leaderboard tells you
Because the zones never change, the DEKA leaderboard shows where you stand among other athletes and gives you a concrete target for next time. You do not need to win anything: moving up a few places between races is already a good sign.

Club Pulse FAQ
Where do I find my results?
In your Pulse personal area, with your finish time and splits. From there you can also compare your result with other editions of the same race and, if you raced a DEKA, check where you stand on the DEKA leaderboard.
What is the Club Pulse accreditation?
If your pack includes a hotel, you collect it at the hotel together with your bib: show your ID and you get the envelope with both, with no queue at the pickup point. [Confirm what the accreditation gives you.]
How much does Club Pulse cost?
[Confirm membership price and terms.]
Can I compare my DEKA with one in another city?
Yes, and it makes sense to. The ten zones are the same at every DEKA in the world, so your times are comparable from one city to another. Compare zone by zone, and separate the time spent in the zones from the running between them.
Do I need the Total pack to use the app?
[Confirm whether the app and Club Pulse come with every pack.]
